ISMA has been serving as the voice of the Indian sugarcane industry and the 55 million farmers associated with it for the last 93 years across regional, national, and international policy deliberations, as well as facilitating innovation and capacity building in the areas of sustainability, agriculture, green transition, and labour welfare. Sustainability and impactful collaboration is at the core of ISMA's advocacy enabling it to champion economic growth and environmental stewardship across the value chain.

Leadership in Alternative Fuels

Building on the trail blazed by global pioneers, ISMA has positioned India as a leader in alternative fuels. Our strategic partnership with Toyota Kirloskar Motor, through a recent MOU, aims to promote the adoption of ethanol-powered vehicles nationwide. This initiative not only supports sustainable mobility but also strengthens India's position in the global energy landscape.

Advancing Biogas Technologies

ISMA's collaboration with the World Bio Gas Association is pivotal in promoting biogas production from sugarcane waste such as press mud and spent wash. This partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focuses on generating policy support and advocating for the widespread adoption of biogas technologies, fostering a cleaner environment and sustainable agriculture practices.

Global Advocacy for Green Technologies

Partnering with the Biofuture campaign, ISMA champions the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like 2G ethanol, compressed biogas (CBG), and green hydrogen. Our collective efforts resonate globally, influencing policy discussions at prestigious platforms such as the G20 and Clean Energy Ministerial events, thereby shaping the future of sustainable energy.

International Collaboration

High-level engagements between ISMA and UNICA, alongside key governmental figures from India and Brazil, highlight our commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in the sugar and bioenergy sectors. ISMA's partnership with India's esteemed Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore showcases our dedication to innovation. Through piloting an advanced technology for green hydrogen production from bagasse—a readily available sugarcane byproduct—we are paving the way for cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. This initiative underscores our proactive approach to harnessing technology for environmental conservation.
